When I see the cross
When I see the cross I see…
Myself in Judas who betrayed Jesus
Myself in the disciples who abandoned Jesus
Myself in Peter who denied Jesus
Myself in the religious leaders who plotted to kill Jesus
Myself in the crowd of soldiers who mocked and spit on Jesus
Myself in Pilate who condemned an innocent man
When I see the cross I see…
A God who is for us and not against us
A God who is defined by self-giving and self-sacrificial love
A God who sent himself for others
A God who launched a redemptive plan for the entire created order
A God who, rather than kill his enemies, died for them instead
When I see the cross I see…
A Son who is for us and not against us
A Son who came not to bring condemnation, but redemption for the entire created order
A Son whose mission was to renew and heal and transform all things
A Son whose kingdom came not through violence, but self-giving love
A Son who ended the cycle of violence and inaugurated a new cycle of grace and peace
When I see the cross I see…
Love
Grace
Salvation
Redemption
Forgiveness
Reconciliation
Hope
“For God so loved his entire creation that he gave is one and only Son. For God did not send his Son into his creation to condemn it, but that all of his creation through Him might be renewed and transformed.” – John 3:16,17
