Author Salman Rushdie Stabbed at New York Lecture
Stories We're Following: From CBN News
Author Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator and will likely lose an eye after being attacked on-stage in New York.
Rushdie was stabbed in the neck and abdomen just as he was about to begin a public lecture at the Chautauqua Institution. He was slated to speak about the United States as a refuge for writers and artists in exile.
In response to his 1988 novel "The Satanic Verses," Rushdie was targeted by muslim groups, including the then-Supreme leader of Iran, who issued a fatwa calling for Rushdie to be killed.
Officials in New York have identified Rushdie's attacker as a 24-year-old Muslim man from New Jersey, who has demonstrated sympathies with Iran.
