Good news on the awards front
ChristianWeek exists to serve our readers, but once a year we pick a handful of the best articles and presentations to be judged by media professionals to see how we stack up against other Canadian church-based publications. And this year Promise Keepers Canada entered SEVEN, a magazine we edit and produce for the well-known ministry for men.
Good news. We each came away winners in several categories.
We were especially pleased to see ChristianWeek Ontario, edited by Robert White of Guelph, earn the coveted General Excellence award for regional newspapers. He and Ontario correspondent Mags Storey regularly provide compelling stories that reach into the homes of more than 20,000 households in southern Ontario and Ottawa each month.
Another ChristianWeek Ontario news article by Mags Storey, "Burger chef cooks for God," also earned top honours. And our ongoing coverage of the Haiti earthquake and its aftermath scored a second place in its category. Well done.
Last fall ChristianWeek published an opinion piece by Meera Bai with John G. Stackhouse Jr. that generated considerable debate in our pages and beyond. "Why I help addicts shoot up: A Christian response to harm reduction" also did well on the awards front, earning First Place in the opinions category and honourable mention for the A.C. Forrest Memorial Award, a special designation for socially conscious religious journalism. Congratulations all.
Meanwhile, our friends at Promise Keepers Canada are rejoicing as well. Design featured prominently in SEVEN's awards. A colour photo spread with an article on Native spirituality won first place, and the front cover of "The Tech Issue" notched a third. ChristianWeek recently renewed and revised its arrangement with PK Canada.
More good news: We will continue to provide editorial and design services for this bimonthly Christian publication for Canadian men.
