Upward and onward
Whenever I'm travelling I notice steeples and signposts. Many churches don't have steeples, but these inspiring symbols dot countless landscapes and are a welcome aspect in every city skyline. Steeples direct our attention to the heavens even as they mark the worship centres of the people of God here on earth. Signposts are everywhere, showing travellers the direction they're headed and the ways that others have already passed.
I sometimes think of ChristianWeek in these terms. Our main purpose for publishing is to inform and inspire to the glory of God - to be signposts and steeples, if you will.
ChristianWeek is here to strengthen the Church by providing helpful information and prompting positive action. Our job is to tell stories of hope and healing in good times and bad, in beauty and in brokenness. This is our beat. Our legacy is an ink trail of evidence that God is alive and well, constantly active in the lives and ministry of His people throughout our land. It's a digital testament, a credible Christian voice cutting through the cacophony of culture.
Our ability to maintain this upward focus and onward thrust is currently hampered by a shortage of money. Subscriptions cover only a small part of our annual budget and, quite frankly, most of our stories are available for free either online at christianweek.org or through our bulk distribution programs. At the same time, advertising revenue is increasingly difficult for newspapers to secure. This is an industry-wide trend.
We are now counting on a select group of readers - those of you who appreciate the value of an independent Christian source of accurate news and fair-minded commentary - to send a donation to help ChristianWeek do an even better job. (We are a registered charity and do provide receipts eligible for tax deductions.)
By giving to ChristianWeek, you help to ensure the viability of a strategic player among the people of God in Canada. By giving to ChristianWeek, you help to provide greater public visibility for countless Christian ministries and inspiring individuals. By giving to ChristianWeek, you strengthen the vitality of Christian networks in our country and amplify a voice that is both winsome and wise.
For now, ChristianWeek will continue to mark the signposts - highlighting good ideas and creative individuals who are blazing the way to more effective ministry in contemporary Canada. And we'll pay attention to the steeples, keeping our eyes fixed on the things above. Thank you for your help.
