The Love Movement needs your stories

TORONTO, ON—Joel Gordon and Benjamin Porter want to know how your youth group is sharing God's love.

Gordon and Porter are co-founders of The Love Movement, a new interactive youth curriculum which aims to encourage young people to show God's love through community involvement, caring for those in need, and developing loving relationships with those around them.

"The Love Movement is a call to action," Gordon says. "It's really about putting the priority on the great commandment, to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and our neighbours as ourselves, and to really understand what that means."

The curriculum will include both written and visual components, and they are currently looking for individuals and groups willing to share their stories.

"You can send us a photo or video clip," Gordon says, "explaining how your youth group is sharing and demonstrating the love of God."

Gordon, an award winning television producer and actor, now serves as youth pastor at Willowdale Baptist Church. He is developing a television program with Porter, a professional counsellor, who is also working on a Love Movement inspired novel.

They say several ministry and charity partners are already committed to the project, including World Vision.

"It's a collaborative effort," Gordon says. "The curriculum is being written, and we're hoping our partners will breathe life into it. We want the whole thing to be very interactive."

The Love Movement curriculum is officially launching on February 14, 2012 with a concert and documentary. They will also be urging Christians to commemorate Valentine's Day by posting "God is Love" on social media profiles and messages. They are asking for people to pray for the project.

"Our slogan is 'from the pews to the people'," Porter says. "We can't just learn love, we need to practice it and love others.

"The vision is for local churches to get out of their safe havens. Our heart is really for the next generation. We want them to learn what love is and be inspired to really live it out."
