Favourable outcome ahead for former Winnipeg musicians
NASHVILLE, TN—A husband-and-wife duo who sold their Winnipeg condo to pursue music full time, relocated to Nashville and signed a record deal with the label that made Amy Grant famous, has landed its first hit song.
In mid-August, "He Is With Us," the debut single from Love & The Outcome's self-titled album, reached number three on the Canadian Christian Radio Chart and number 15 on Billboard's Christian Songs chart in the U.S.
"We can trust our God," vocalist Jodi King sings during the pop-rock song's refrain. "He knows what He's doing … He is with us / Always, always."
Speaking by phone from their van while driving to a concert in Young Harris, Georgia, King and her husband, bassist Chris Rademaker, told ChristianWeek how they hope the truth in their songs plants a seed in listeners' hearts and inspires them to follow Jesus.
"This is the best way we know how to worship God," King said.
Word Records released Love & The Outcome's debut album at the end of August. Rademaker said that of the 11 songs on the disc, "He Is With Us" is his favourite.
"Having our first single be a very clear statement of what we believe—that God is with us and we can trust in Him—was important to us," he said.
The duo met while touring with worship artist Jon Buller, and while they have been married for a number of years, their musical collaboration is relatively new. King was pursuing a solo career, releasing the album Little Smile in 2010, when Rademaker began filling in on guitar at select shows after the dissolution of his former band, The Attics.
The couple rebranded themselves as Love & The Outcome when the duo signed a multiple album deal with Word in July 2012. They are touring throughout North America this fall.
King said performing with Rademaker by her side is awesome.
"It's a really different feeling having Chris beside me at the front of the stage, instead of in the back [playing guitar]," she said. "We both get to bring who we are now and share it on stage with the audience. It feels like the right time to be doing this together.
"It just feels like this is how it always should have been."
