Actors Needed for Street Evangelism
TORONTO, ON—From Brazil to Kenya to Thailand, DRIME has circled the globe. Now, the Vancouver-based ministry is planting a team in Toronto.
DRIME stands for "Disciples Ready in Mobile Evangelism." It was founded in 1994 and is associated with Power to Change Ministries.
"The purpose of DRIME is to use creative drama, dance and music to transcend language barriers and communicate Christ's love and grace to people all over the world," says Hebecah Zuanazzi,head leader of Drime Toronto.
This summer, DRIME sent a team of five to Toronto for three months, to support leaders, Zuanazzi and Lesley Kuglin and help recruit local Christians. While there, the team performed dramas in churches and on the street. They also provided theatre training and helped in presenting to churches.
DRIME's "choreographed dramas" have no dialogue and are set to current music like U2 and Third Day. Each team member learns all the roles, so they also all have the flexibility to engage in conversations with people who stop to watch. DRIME Toronto is looking for adults of any age who are "followers of Christ… and have a passion for ministry and evangelism." Previous theatre experience is not required.
Zuanazzi was drawn to DRIME after having been involved in street theatre at her home church in Brazil.
"As a follower of Christ, this is one of my passions," she says. "It's beautiful. It's creative… and Jesus is in every drama. Hundreds of people stop to watch. They are curious, and this is one way of starting a conversation.
"Our vision is to make Jesus inescapable on the streets of Toronto."
