Book offers hope for married moms

STEINBACH, MB—A few years ago, Carla Anne Coroy's husband was gone all the time. He was travelling away from home on business, leaving the house before their four children were awake and getting home after the children were sleeping.

Coroy was a married mom, but a solo parent.

Finding that there were no resources for Christian women in her situation, Coroy decided to write a book herself. Kregel Publications released Married Mom, Solo Parent last October.

"I didn't find any solid biblical advice for living a married life while my husband was gone and [I was] parenting my children alone," says Coroy, who attends Southland Community Church. "Over the course of the years I felt God was really saying I needed to be the one to write the book. That's where it came from–a desire to see other moms be able to have biblical counsel when they're going through the same situation."

Coroy says the biggest piece of advice she has for married mothers who are single parents is that God wants them to be holy women who have holy marriages.

"Women need to be encouraged that just because things are hard, it doesn't mean that they have to give up," Coroy says. "Even if the circumstances don't change, they can find joy and strength to be the godly wife that God has called them to be, if they look to the right place, and that is to God."

In addition to the book, Coroy writes a regular blog on her web site, CarlaAnne.com. The blog is geared toward Christian women and gets about 1,000 visitors per day. When she's not homeschooling her children, Coroy also leads seminars and works as a Christian mentor.
