Camp plans move ahead for Living Bible Explorers

WINNIPEG, MB—If all goes according to plan, Living Bible Explorers (LBE) will begin pouring concrete in April to start creating permanent structures for its summer camp.

In 2010, philanthropists Walter and Eleanor Loewen gifted the inner-city ministry, which is dedicated to meeting the needs of the poor, 100 acres of land on the Whitemouth River at Hadashville, Manitoba.

George Hill, LBE's general manager, says the organization hopes to start framing its first cabins in May and June, with an eye on being ready for a full summer of camping in tents and some cabins this coming summer.

Hill says that LBE built an outdoor chapel in the forest last year as well as some temporary structures that allowed the ministry to take campers to the property this past summer.

"We had one full week of camp and then some weekend camps in 2012," Hill says. "It was very successful. The children are really encouraged to be at their own facility."

Hill adds that one of the highlights of the week was when the Loewens visited the camp for a hotdog roast.

"That was neat—to have the donors come and visit and enjoy seeing the kids using the land."
