Fewer than half of Evangelicals believe Bible is literally true

A recent poll shows many Christians are moving away from a strictly literal view of the Bible - although still believe in its divine inspiration.
The results released by Gallup report that just 40% of people identifying as Evangelical or "born-again" Christians believe the Bible to be the "actual word of God," while another 51% believe it to be the "inspired word of God." Meanwhile in the general population, a record-low 20% of Americans believe the Bible to be literally true.
