Mike's Minute - A call to prayer
Prayer
Jeremiah 33:3 - “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
Imagine when I was first married to my wife I said to her, “I am committing myself to you and promise to love and care for you for ever, and if that ever changes, I will be sure to let you know! In the meantime don’t expect me to talk to you except at Christmas, Easter, weddings, funerals or in cases of emergencies."
As ridiculous as that may seem, it is the way many people carry on their relationship with the Lord. Can I encourage you to take time today to talk to God in prayer.
His invitation is waiting for you right now – to call out to him and see how he will answer you.
Consider some of the reasons we don’t like to pray:
- Prayer flies in the face of the deep-seeded human value of self-reliance.
- Prayer is an interruption in life to someone who is on the fast track of life.
- It is difficult to stand against the pull of our generations ‘solutions.’
- Perhaps the biggest challenge is that it is difficult to trust in God when we are not in the habit of living a simple life of faith.
May I encourage you today – to pray – the invitation is still there!
