Forgiveness a tough, costly journey
Forgiveness and reconciliation are requisite principles which co-exist throughout Scripture and which are part of the fabric of the Christian faith. They are at the heart of God's nature and purpose in His redemptive plans for humanity gone astray. In this marvelous little book, the latest in the IVP Resources for Reconciliation" series, Gregory Jones and Célestin Musekura call the reader's attention back to the interconnectivity of these two biblical ideals.
The book highlights anecdotal examples from Musekura's personal life, coupled with significant theological insights contributed by both authors. Readers will discover that reconciliation is no small, easy, uncomplicated step, a natural outcome of forgiving. It is in fact tough love; tough on the forgiving and the forgiven, and costly for the forgiving, as well as the forgiven.
Jones and Musekura help the reader see the heart of God in real life circumstances. The progressive nature of the chapters, written in turns by the authors, offer a clear understanding that forgiveness and reconciliation are at the heart of the gospel God being the first to extend them, to the Christian Church as a community of forgiveness, following Christ's example. These concepts are fleshed out in chapters that describe the work of forgiveness and reconciliation as putting on Christ, dancing in the faith and healing the wounds of our memories.
This is a short book, and definitely not an easy read, but I highly recommend this book to those who seek to teach biblical forgiveness and reconciliation in their churches.
