Free training to help churches thrive online
VANCOUVER, BC—To help churches and charities make the most of their online presence for experienced Internet users and complete novices alike, the Canadian Council of Christian Churches (CCCC) is partnering with a media and marketing company.
Community Management 101 is a free online program run by PeerGiving.com.
"We'll be looking at how to get online and how to be more strategic when you're on it," says Darian Kovacs of Peer Giving."For anyone who is budget conscious and really wants to learn to communicate more effectively, this is probably one of the best things they could invest their time in."
A recent CCCC survey of almost 500 Christian organizations from across Canada found that while 28% had a strong online presence, another 24% had limited to none. Over half did not see the importance of effectively utilizing social media, such as Facebook.
"One of the biggest misconceptions that people have about social media could be that you need to be an expert," Kovacs says.
He adds that the keys to online success are being authentic, honest and consistent. This includes being willing to talk about the challenges your church and charity are facing, as well as your successes.
"When you post about the messy things you are dealing with, and how you are learning from your mistakes, people are drawn to that."
The 'webinars' on Storytelling, Social Media and Creative Fundraising Campaigns will run every Tuesday from March 6 to April 24. The sessions are 25 minutes long and include Q&A, polls and resources.
Heather Card, chief operating officer of CCCC says, "We are hearing that social media can definitely have a positive ministry impact, even if you have a small budget. The key is to dedicate time, understand your audience, and know what you are trying to achieve."
Future free online courses are planned for later in the year. For more information visit the website.
