Interserve director follows God’s call to Canada
TORONTO, ON—Interserve Canada's new executive director, Royce George, is an Indian-born engineer who once worked in Dubai.
"Interserve facilitates the church in Canada to send professionals to serve the needy in Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim countries," says George. He adds that while the role feels like a divine appointment, the journey from living on Interserve's "mission field," to heading the organization's Canadian branch came as a "spirit-led" surprise.
After training and working as an electronics engineer in India, George had moved to Dubai, where he was responsible for installing security systems in some of Persian Gulf's largest and most lavish buildings. He also led a small church fellowship.
Facing burnout from the demanding hours, George was planning on returning to India, when a visiting preacher told him God was sending him to Toronto.
"I did not want to go to Canada at first," George admits, even though he had actually received the requisite landing papers years earlier at the urging of a friend. When a second unrelated preacher prophesied the same thing, George packed up his family on faith and moved to Toronto.
Five months later, through the connection of a friend, he was asked to join Interserve as deputy director. In September 2009, he was appointed interim national director, and then became national director this spring.
"It's been amazing," George says. "I landed here in March 2007 not knowing what the Lord had planned for me. Three years to the date I'm national director of a Canadian mission organization.
"When the Lord says, 'I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you a hope and a future,' He means every word of it," he adds. "I think we need to learn to trust Him and walk with Him.
"The Lord will open the right doors at the right time. As it says in Revelation 3:7, 'When God opens a door, no man can shut it, and when God shuts a door, no man can open it'."
