Lost and Found Theatre launches youth program
KITCHENER, ON - Youth will get a chance to learn every aspect of theatre production as a Lost and Found Theatre launches its youth ensemble.
"This is for students passionate about theatre," says Lost & Found Theatre education director Alan Sapp of the Youth Ensemble Theatre (YET) program, which starts Sunday, October 2.
While it is a mainstream theatre company, Lost & Found Theatre approaches its plays and productions from a Christian worldview.
The 11 YET participants come from Guelph, Cambridge and the Kitchener-Waterloo area. They will begin by studying movement and voice. By the time the program ends in May, they will have also looked at scene studies, Shakespeare text, mask work, stage management, set and costume design, direction, improvisation and writing.
Workshop leaders include members of the Lost and Found ensemble, along with friends of the theatre such as Wilfrid Laurier University professor Leslie O'Dell, Wingfield series producer Douglas Beattie and local playwright Gary Kirkham.
Unlike some programs, YET won't work towards a major production. Instead the group will conclude with a showcase so friends and family can see what the students have learned.
"Students will learn how important it is to have ensemble - a sense of unity or coming together to create something bigger than [they] are," says Sapp. "It's a character building exercise, not about how good they were or patting each other on back.
"It's about how much they learned together about the things go into a production without pressure getting up on stage and perform."
