North Korean delivers love of God

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA—The dramatic testimony of an 18-year-old North Korean woman electrified more than 4,000 listeners on the second evening at the Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization.

In simple words, Sung Kyung Ju described how her father, who had been a senior official in the North Korean government, fled with his wife and six-year-old daughter to China. The family came into contact with Christians and her father accepted the faith.

While in China, her mother, who was pregnant with a second child, died of leukemia. Then, in 2001, her father was forcibly returned to North Korea where he spent three years in prison before being allowed to return to his family.

But in 2006 her father returned to North Korea as a missionary, intent on bringing the gospel message to his people. He was caught, imprisoned and most likely executed.

Meanwhile, Sung Kyung Ju was taken into a loving Christian home. One night in a dream she had an encounter with Jesus Christ and committed herself to the faith of her father. When her adoptive family made plans to move to another continent, the young woman decided she would go to South Korea and pursue a university education.

She is currently studying in South Korea and is determined to return to her home country to reach her people with the gospel message. "I want to bring the love of God to North Korea," she said.

When she finished her testimony, the entire assembly rose of one accord, erupting in a loud and long standing ovation.
