Prolific Canadian singer-songwriter brings acoustic tour across Canada

TWIN BUTTE, AB—Manitoba-born singer-songwriter Matt Epp is currently touring across Canada in support of two upcoming albums.

The 32-date Canadian leg of Epp's "Careful Abandon" acoustic tour started at the end of August and goes until the beginning of November. It includes a stop at Winnipeg's West End Cultural Centre on Thursday, October 18.

Epp (no relation to the writer) says he wanted to do a stripped-down tour that reflected "the naked and vulnerable form of each song; to convey that special clarity of a song when it is first conceived."

"A song—and a singer—should be able to stand up on its own with nothing to hide behind," the 31-year-old says. "It's 'careful' because it's a craft, and it's an 'abandon' because it's artful expression."

German record label Acoustic Music Records will release Epp's solo acoustic album, Never Have I Loved Like This, in October. While it was recorded specifically for the German market, Epp will have copies for sale at his Canadian shows this fall.

He also has a new album coming out in early 2013 that he recorded with his band, The Amorian Assembly. It will be Epp's second release with the band, and his seventh overall.

Epp and his bandmates spent the last year living in Granada, Spain in part to be closer to music industry opportunities in Europe. He says the album he's releasing in 2013 will reflect the struggles of trying to launch The Amorian Assembly and overcoming the hurdles along the way.

Even though the past year has been difficult at times, Epp says he is thankful for what God has provided.

"Every time we get sunk … God always picks up the slack, and that's really been our experience this whole time," Epp says. "We get exactly how much we need right on time."
