Rally to defund abortion attracts two thousand-plus
TORONTO, ON—Sixty per cent of Ontarians don't want the province to fund abortions and 2,300 people rallied at Queen's Park this fall to drive the message home.
The statistics come from a new Abacus Data poll commissioned by the Campaign Life Coalition, LifeSiteNews.com and The Interim. According to the poll: 40% of Ontarians believe abortions should only be funded in the case of medical emergencies; 11% believe abortions should be available but not funded; and 10% don't think abortions should be available.
"The poll results show a clear majority opposes the status quo of taxpayer funding for all abortions, proving politicians shouldn't be afraid to address abortion defunding," says Jim Hughes, president of Campaign Life Coalition in a media release.
The October 22 rally was held to publicize and support those findings.
"To end abortion funding is the greatest thing we can do on a provincial level," says Alissa Golob of Campaign Life Coalition Youth, noting the federal government is responsible for enacting abortion laws, while the province provides funding under the health care system.
Golob says the rally's main aim was to get the message out and "create a movement" toward defunding abortions.
