Saskatchewan Bible college opens satellite campus in BC

TAPPEN, BC—What would lead a Saskatchewan-based Bible college to start a satellite campus 1,000 kilometres away in British Columbia?

"Nothing short of God's clear direction," says Steve Janz, director of Millar College of the Bible's new campus in B.C.'s Shuswap region.

Located in Pambrun, Saskatchewan, Millar College is able to house roughly 160 students. For the past four or five years, the college has received more applications than the campus can handle. Two-and-a-half years ago, the college's leadership team began to think about how to address the problem.

Janz says they felt that growing the main campus would compromise some of the college's core values. So when an alumnus from B.C. visited the college and told them about a Bible camp in B.C. that was looking to create or host some sort of program during its off season, Millar's Sunnybrae Campus was born.

Twenty-seven students are currently enrolled at the campus, which officially opened on September 14.

"It's been exciting," Janz says. "Students are excited to be here and it's going great. We're very encouraged."

Since Millar doesn't have the authority to grant degrees in B.C., it has teamed up with Okanagan Bible College—an institution that doesn't own a classroom building, but that partners with other schools to help train Christian leaders.

Janz says students who graduate from the Sunnybrae campus will receive a degree that is from both Millar College and Okanagan Bible College.

"We want to experiment with things, and honestly, we're very encouraged," Janz says. "God is good and he's been very kind to Millar.

"At the end of the day, it's because of God's kindness that we're able to do this."
