Stop by for a visit

Let me begin by stating the obvious: the digital world can publish much more quickly than print. I love the convenience of a paper in my hands; print certainly brings a set of advantages to the reading experience. But when it comes to news, updating a web site is a whole lot more efficient than producing another edition of the newspaper.

As it happens, ChristianWeek really needs to be publishing in both formats. And we deliver. We've had an online presence since 1996. And while it's undergone considerable enhancements over time, about one year ago we gave this site a major overhaul and launched a weekly e-newsletter. Last spring we began updating the website twice a week (instead of once every two weeks).

So why am I talking about this now? Quite simply, I want to encourage more readers to visit ChristianWeek online and subscribe to the e-newsletter. Why? One good reason is immediacy. We want to serve the information needs of Christians throughout Canada in a timelier manner. The article about Barak Obama's Nobel Prize, for example, was available online the morning of the announcement.

A second good reason is frequency. Being properly informed is one thing; being inundated with news is quite another. ChristianWeek editors take pride in our role of sifting through reams of material to find and present stories that help readers develop a solid base of knowledge and encourage Christians to be actively engaged in our world. To that end we upload articles of particular interest on Tuesdays and Fridays. And once a week (on Tuesdays) we send out an e-newsletter to alert readers to these new stories. Simply enter your name and email address into the space at the top right of our homepage to begin receiving this reader alert. It's absolutely free, so sign up right away.

A third good reason to visit ChristianWeek online is to browse. While I've been promoting the immediacy that the web provides, I actually like to dig through the archives to discover many articles that continue to inform and instruct. It isn't all "news" that's here today and gone tomorrow. See, for example, the Global Report archive of Geoffrey Johnston's in-depth articles providing insight and analysis from hotspots around the world. Many other columns and features also have enduring value, and the search tool does a good job of helping you find them.

Telling those stories with truth and grace is at the very heart of our mission.
